Cosmetic Dentistry

Smile makeovers are very popular through their promotion in the media and the results can be excellent, with the instant changes and overwhelming emotion making for great TV.

However, when someone has healthy teeth and they want to improve their appearance, porcelain veneers may not always be necessary to achieve a beautiful, natural-looking healthy smile.

In these situations, an example treatment plan may involve a short period of orthodontics, a course of tooth whitening, followed by some composite bonding to produce fabulous results without the need for removing good tooth tissue.

The above treatment plan involves minimally invasive dental treatment, is more easily maintained, requires less surgery time and is less costly.

In some cases though, porcelain veneers or crowns may be the most ideal treatment option and we are very proud to work with the world's leading technicians to create fabulous smiles.

Case 1 – Broken Tooth

This gentleman presented with a broken front tooth after taking a fall. The aesthetic difficulty with this case is restoring the tooth whilst reproducing the white horizontal striations such as that on the neighbouring tooth. An easy but more destructive method to achieving this would be to use a laboratory constructed composite or porcelain veneer or crown. However in this case, we decided to use the most conservative approach and restore the tooth in surgery using a complex layering composite material with a white staining agent.

Case 2 – Worn Incisors

This lady presented with heavily worn central teeth. Her main complaint was when smiling her central teeth were very short giving her a 'reverse' smile line. To lengthen her teeth and improve her smile, an easy but more destructive method to achieving this would be to use a laboratory constructed composite or porcelain veneer or crown. However in this case, we decided to use the most conservative approach and restore the teeth in surgery using a complex layering composite material.

Case 3 – Improving Smile 1

This lady's complaints were her chipped front teeth and her old, now discoloured white fillings. To improve her smile, we chose a minimally invasive approach by restoring the teeth in surgery with a complex layering composite material.

Case 4 – Improving Smile 2

This lady was not happy with her smile due to the way both her lateral teeth were rotated and also how her crowned upper right central tooth looked unnatural compared with her neighbouring front tooth. In addition to this, she felt that the central teeth looked very wide especially when taking into account the more narrow appearance of her rotated lateral teeth. A smile makeover was discussed and preparation of her four upper front teeth was carried out for porcelain laminate veneers and a replacement all porcelain crown for the upper right central tooth.

Case 5 – Improving Smile 3

This lady was unhappy with the colour of her teeth and especially the two large unsightly fillings in her central incisors. A smile makeover was discussed where minimally invasive dentistry could be used to improve her smile. In surgery tooth whitening was carried out followed by restoration of the upper central incisors with veneers made by our skilled ceramicist along with simple contouring of the upper right lateral incisor to create a more aesthetic line.

Case 6 – Improving Smile 4

Through the years, this lady had undergone a substantial amount of dental treatment with twelve of the upper teeth being restored with fillings or root canal fillings or crowns. She was not happy with her smile and also felt that the shape of her teeth looked too bulky and wide. A smile makeover involving these twelve teeth was discussed and a treatment plan was agreed. In surgery tooth whitening was carried out followed by restoration of the teeth using a combination of porcelain laminate veneers, all porcelain and porcelain bonded to precious metal crowns.
