Veneers are a very thin layer of porcelain, about 0.5 -1.0mm in thickness, which are bonded onto the front surface of your teeth. They only require the minimal amount of preparation to the tooth structure and therefore, are a much more conservative restoration than a crown.
Porcelain veneers allow us to alter the tooth position, shape, size and colour enabling us to achieve a very ‘life like’ esthetic result.
Placing a veneer requires at least 2 appointments. The first involves some minor contouring or shaving of the tooth and taking an impression of the prepared tooth. The follow up appointment is to have the veneer bonded into place.
Once placed, Porcelain veneers should be brushed and flossed as normal. If you are known to be a night time clencher, then it is advisable to wear a night guard to minimise the stresses placed upon your veneers whilst sleeping and help to avoid breakages.
